The Tank Is Half Empty

My new gas tank was delivered today. For those of you who didn’t know my car has been leaking gas for that last few months and has been out of service. I took it to the shop and they told me I needed a new gas tank, but that it would cost about $700 to fix. I couldn’t afford that and I  figured a gas tank couldn’t be that difficult to replace myself so I took it home, where it has been sitting for the past 2 months.

Anyway, I ordered a gas tank, and got it about a month ago, but I was waiting to open it until I was ready to install it. When I finally got fed up this weekend with not having a car and attempted to install it, I realized I ordered the wrong tank.

Luckily the guys at Wolfsburg West were pretty cool, and told me I could just send it back, and they would ship out the right one. So this morning I got the correct tank. I decided to try and install it tonight. I unplugged all the hoses, and was attempting to pull the old tank out of the trunk when my roomate noticed that my gas tank had gas in it. About half a tank of gas, to be exact.
So I asked myself, as my roommate Simon asked me aloud. If your tank is leaking gas, and had been sitting for two months, how come it still has gas in it. My guess is, the leak is near the middle of the tank so it only leaks halfway out, but I’m no mechanic so who knows.

So the plan? I’m going to charge my dead battery tonight, then run the gas out of my car tomorrow, and hopefully install the new tank tomorrow night. Then Ill put 20 bucks in, and my tank will be half full.
